Bukhari :: Book 7 :: Volume 72 :: Hadith 734
Narrated Ibn
'Abbas:
For one year I
wanted to ask 'Umar about the two women who helped each other against the
Prophet but I was afraid of him. One day he dismounted his riding animal and
went among the trees of Arak to answer the call of nature, and when he
returned, I asked him and he said, "(They were) 'Aisha and Hafsa."
Then he added, "We never used to give significance to ladies in the days
of the Pre-lslamic period of ignorance, but when Islam came and Allah mentioned
their rights, we used to give them their rights but did not allow them to interfere
in our affairs. ………..
Character of ideal women:
(60:12)O
Prophet! When believing women come to you to give you the Bai'â (pledge), that
they will not associate anything in worship with Allah, that they will not
steal, that they will not commit illegal sexual intercourse, that they will not
kill their children, that they will not utter slander, intentionally forging
falsehood (i.e. by making illegal children belonging to their husbands), and
that they will not disobey you in any Ma'rûf (Islâmic Monotheism and all that
which Islâm ordains) then accept their Bai'â (pledge), and ask Allah to forgive
them, Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Men are protectors of women:
4: 34. Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah
has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support
them) from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly
obedient (to Allah and to their husbands), and guard in the husband's absence
what Allah orders them to guard (e.g. their chastity, their husband's
property, etc.). As to those women on whose part you see ill conduct,
admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them
(lightly, if it is useful), but if they return to obedience, seek not against
them means (of annoyance). Surely, Allah is Ever Most High, Most Great.
(4:34)Men are the protectors and maintainers of women
Men and women equal:
4: 1 O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single
person (Adam), and from him (Adam) He created his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], and from
them both He created many men and women and fear Allah through Whom you demand
your mutual (rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship).
Surely, Allah is Ever an All Watcher over you.
9: 72. Allah has promised to the believers -men and women, - Gardens
under which rivers flow to dwell therein forever, and beautiful mansions in
Gardens of 'Adn (Eden Paradise). But the greatest bliss is the Good Pleasure of
Allah. That is the supreme success.
43: 17. And if one of them is informed of the news of (the birth of)
that which he set forth as a parable to the Most Beneficent (Allah) (i.e. of a
girl), his face becomes dark, gloomy, and he is filled with grief!
16: 72,33: 35,33: 58,33,53:21,73,40: 40,42: 49,42: 50 ,47: 19,48:5,6,57:13,18,
48:6,92:3,4:124,75:39,92:3,
4:19. O you who believe! You are forbidden to inherit women against
their will and you should not treat them with harshness, that you may take away
part of the Mahr you have given them, unless they commit open illegal sexual
intercourse. And live with them honorably. If you dislike them, it may be that
you dislike a thing and Allah brings through it a great deal of good.
48: 5. That He may admit the believing men and the believing women to
Gardens under which rivers flow (i.e. Paradise), to abide therein forever, and
to expiate from them their sins, and that is with Allah, a supreme success,
3: 195. So their Lord accepted of them (their supplication and answered
them), "Never will I allow to be lost the work of any of you, be the male
or female. You are (members) one of another, so those who emigrated and were
driven out from their homes, and suffered harm in My Cause, and who fought, and
were killed (in My Cause), verily, I will remit from them their evil deeds and
admit them into Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise); a reward from Allah,
and with Allah is the best of rewards."
16: 58. And when the news of (the birth of) a female (child) is brought
to any of them, his face becomes dark, and he is filled with inward grief!
59. He hides himself from the people because of the evil of that whereof
he has been informed. Shall he keep her with dishonor or bury her in the earth?
Certainly, evil is their decision.
16: 97. Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he
(or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give
a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and
We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they
used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter).
33: 35. Verily, the Muslims (those who submit to Allah in Islam) men and
women, the believers men and women (who believe in Islamic Monotheism), the men
and the women who are obedient (to Allah), the men and women who are truthful
(in their speech and deeds), the men and the women who are patient (in
performing all the duties which Allah has ordered and in abstaining from all
that Allah has forbidden), the men and the women who are humble (before their
Lord Allah), the men and the women who give Sadaqât (i.e. Zakât, and alms,
etc.), the men and the women who observe Saum (fast) (the obligatory fasting
during the month of Ramadân, and the optional Nawâfil fasting), the men and the
women who guard their chastity (from illegal sexual acts) and the men and the
women who remember Allah much with their hearts and tongues (while sitting,
standing, lying, etc. for more than 300 times extra over the remembrance of Allah
during the five compulsory congregational prayers) or praying extra additional
Nawâfil prayers of night in the last part of night, etc.) Allah has prepared
for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise).
40:40. "Whosoever does an evil deed, will not be requited except
the like thereof, and whosoever does a righteous deed, whether male or female
and is a true believer (in the Oneness of Allah), such will enter Paradise,
where they will be provided therein (with all things in abundance) without
limit.

4: 129. You will never be able to do perfect justice between wives even
if it is your ardent desire, so do not incline too much to one of them (by
giving her more of your time and provision) so as to leave the other hanging
(i.e. neither divorced nor married). And if you do justice, and do
all that is right and fear Allah by keeping away from all that is wrong, then Allah
is Ever OftForgiving, Most Merciful.
4:3. And if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphan
girls, then marry (other) women of your choice, two or three, or four but if
you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one
or (the captives and the slaves) that your right hands possess. That is nearer

Sex prohibited during menstruation periods
2: 222. They
ask you concerning menstruation. Say: that is an Adha (a harmful thing for a
husband to have a sexual intercourse with his wife while she is having her
menses), therefore keep away from women during menses and go not unto them till
they have purified (from menses and have taken a bath). And when they have
purified themselves, then go in unto them as Allah has ordained for you (go in
unto them in any manner as long as it is in their vagina). Truly, Allah loves
those who turn unto Him in repentance and loves those who purify themselves (by
taking a bath and cleaning and washing thoroughly their private parts, bodies,
for their prayers, etc.).

Inheritance women rights [daughter /sister]
4: 11. Allah
commands you as regards your children's (inheritance); to the male, a portion
equal to that of two females; if (there are) only daughters, two or more, their
share is two thirds of the inheritance; if only one, her share is half. For
parents, a sixth share of inheritance to each if the deceased left children; if
no children, and the parents are the (only) heirs, the mother has a third; if
the deceased left brothers or (sisters), the mother has a sixth. (The
distribution in all cases is) after the payment of legacies he may have
bequeathed or debts. You know not which of them, whether your parents or your
children, are nearest to you in benefit, (these fixed shares) are ordained by Allah.
And Allah is Ever All Knower, All Wise.
4:7. There is a
share for men and a share for women from what is left by parents and those
nearest related, whether, the property be small or large - a legal share.
4:176 They
ask you for a legal verdict. Say: "Allah directs (thus) about AlKalâlah
(those who leave neither descendants nor ascendants as heirs). If it is a
man that dies, leaving a sister, but no child, she shall have half the inheritance. If
(such a deceased was) a woman, who left no child, her brother takes her
inheritance. If there are two sisters, they shall have two-thirds of the
inheritance; if there are brothers and sisters, the male will have twice the
share of the female. (Thus) does Allah make clear to you (His Law) lest
you go astray. And Allah is the All-Knower of everything."

Narrated Um Salama: A woman was bereaved of her husband and her relatives worried about her eyes (which were diseased). They came to Allah's Apostle, and asked him to allow them to treat her eyes with kohl, but he said, "She should not apply kohl to her eyes. (In the Pre-Islamic period of Ignorance) a widowed woman among you would stay in the worst of her clothes (or the worst part of her house) and when a year had elapsed, if a dog passed by her, she would throw a globe of dung, Nay, (she cannot use kohl) till four months and ten days have elapsed."

then when they have fulfilled their term, there is no sin on you if they (the

2: 226. Those who take an oath not to have sexual relation with their
wives must wait four months, then if they return (change their idea in this
period), verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
2: 228. And divorced women shall wait (as regards their marriage) for
three menstrual periods, and it is not lawful for them to conceal what Allah
has created in their wombs, if they believe in Allah and the Last Day. And
their husbands have the better right to take them back in that period, if they
wish for reconciliation. And they (women) have rights (over their husbands as
regards living expenses, etc.) similar (to those of their husbands) over them
